Due to quality requirements, hydrogen levels need to be reduced in molten aluminium alloys.
In-line degassing units for the removal of hydrogen are normally box units which require insulation and a heating system to maintain the desired temperature of the metal being cast. These boxes require emptying and flushing before a change of alloy, which leads to losses.
Alcan has developed a compact, modular degassing system, commercialised by STAS, which uses rotary injectors in the molten aluminium directly in the casting trough prior to filtering and casting. No heating is required nor is there any loss of metal due to flushing when changing alloys.
1. No loss of metal due to alloy changes. 2. No heating required of unit. 3. Lowers operating and maintenance cost compared with other degassing systems. 4. Reduces hydrogen levels to the same level as conventional degassers. 5. Modular system allows verying metal flow rates. 6. Improves melt quality. 7. Operates automatically.
