Aluminium alloys need to meet ever more stringent quality requirements, particularly for the elimination of alkalis and alkaline earth metals.

Chlorine is traditionally used to eliminate these impurities but is a pollutant and a hazard.

The TAC, designed and commercialised by STAS, successfully reduces Na and Li contents to specification levels in less than 10 minutes without the use of chlorine. TAC achieves these objectives by injecting AlF₃ directly into the molten metal in the crucible.
